Puckaway Pigfest Raises $7,500 for Care & Share Food Bank

The annual Puckaway Pigfest, held over the weekend of September 6-7, 2024, proved to be another resounding success, raising $7,500 for the Care & Share Food Bank of Marquette County. The two-day event attracted visitors from across the region, who came together for a weekend of barbecue, family-friendly activities, and community spirit, all in the name of a good cause.

One of the key attractions of the event was the Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) Masters Series BBQ Competition, which brought 37 BBQ teams from eight states to compete. A panel of 48 KCBS-certified judges evaluated the entries, with teams showcasing their best barbecue skills in the hopes of earning top honors.

In addition to the BBQ competition, the festival featured a range of activities for attendees. On Friday evening, festival-goers were invited to submit their top chili recipes and cast their votes in the People’s Choice Chili Cook-off, where tasters sampled and judged eight different chili entries. The following afternoon, participants had the chance to showcase their best desserts for the People’s Choice Dessert Competition, allowing attendees to enjoy and vote on eight delectable dessert submissions. The event also featured four rounds of bingo, giving participants the chance to win cash prizes, along with a steinholding competition that had both men’s and women’s categories.

Over the weekend, families delighted in popular attractions such as barrel train rides, while fundraising efforts were supported by 50/50 raffles, raffle baskets, and the sale of ice cream sundaes and pulled pork lunches. Visitors also had the chance to browse and shop at various vendor booths. The festival created a vibrant and engaging atmosphere, all while contributing to a worthy cause.
